Behind the Lens
What to expect when you book a session with me:
I have grown so much as a photographer since I started my company last year! I have been researching, talking to other photographers and getting INSPIRED. I try to focus on QUALITY rather than quantity, meaning I am going to take time to set up the shot and get it perfect before we move on. I will take anywhere between 200-300 images in an hour, but narrow them down to around 75-100 to edit and present to you. Post-processing is a big part of my photography. I try to get as close as I can to the image I want in camera, but I touch every single image I give to you, so I ask that you allow up to two weeks for your images to be completed.
I am a big fan of color!! Your clothes should be representative of your personality, which is not necessarily white button down shirt and khakis, and also doesn't have to match everyone else's clothing choices. To get a really cool look, think layers! Think frayed jeans, old shoes, and fun accessories! Please don't be afraid to bring a change of clothes, a cool hat, or a suitcase full of scarves and necklaces to your session! Let's play!!
I have several locations where I just love to shoot, however, lets be honest, everybody gets a little stale doing the same thing over and over again. I love to photograph kids in their homes. They are just more comfortable on their turf. I try to find interesting textures as backgrounds and unusual props and cool antiques always make an image pop. A child sitting in an antique chair in the middle of a field is so interesting and one of my favorite shots!
Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions. Thank you for your booking and I can't wait to work with you :)!!
my company:
I started my photography company in 2009 after the birth of my daughter, Keira. I began (and still do) second shooting weddings and then started accepting my own portrait and wedding clients. I love to document peoples emotions, major moments, and the beauty of nature. I am an active member of the Professional Photographers of America and Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.
{Wedding Frequently Asked Questions}
1. How long do you need for formal portraits after the ceremony?
I try to keep the formal shots limited to 30 minutes. If you have a larger bridal party, it may take longer. You are welcome to give me a list of family members you want portraits with, however please realize that each shot takes a few minutes to set up, so the shorter your list, the more quickly we will get done. We can always pull people aside during the reception to get shots with the bride and groom!
2. Do you allow other people to take photos during the formal portraits?
It can be very distracting to the bridal party if there are multiple people taking pictures behind me. There is always someone in the group who is easily distracted. Also if your guests are using a flash, it may unintentionally mess up my lighting. Your guests are more than welcome to purchase prints from your wedding. In fact, I even offer at NO additional charge, cards for the guests with my website on them so your guests will know where to find your pictures. Once I have gotten the shot, anyone is welcome to take photos, I just ask that they let me do my thing first!
3. What will you wear to my wedding?
I always come in all black professional attire.
4. Do you recommend any other vendors?
Yes, I know several other vendors in the Charlottesville area. Please email me for more information.
5. What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, check, and money orders. I can accept credit cards via pay pal for a small fee.
6. What time will you arrive at my wedding?
I like to arrive AT LEAST 1 hour prior to your ceremony to set up and take getting ready and detail shots. If yuou are interested in doing the seperate groomsmen and bridesmaids formals before the wedding so it takes less time after the ceremony, we can definitely do that but I will need to arrive at least 2 hours before the ceremony for that to happen.
7. Do you scout our location before the wedding?
If your wedding is in or around Charlottesville, chances are I've been there. If not, I will scout if I can.
8. What is your style of shooting?
There are SOME traditional and formal photos, but for the most part I shoot in a more photojournalistic style and capture the events as they unfold.
9. Do you have back up equipment?
Yes, I shoot with all Nikon professional equipment and I always carry back ups with me.
10. How do you handle black and white/sepia/creative color?
I always keep the original color image. I go through and choose some of my favorites to get creative with and make a copy of them before changing the color. You will get a copy of each.
11. What is your process for backing up the images?
As soon as I get home from your wedding, I will upload them to my Mac, copy them to an external hard drive, and burn them on to a dvd. After I have edited them, I add the edited files to the hard drive and dvd, and them upload them to my website, which is yet another source of backup.
12. How long does it take before we can see our images?
I allow up to a month, but usually it will only take a couple of weeks. I send you a preview of several images on my blog within a couple of days.
13. Do you use a second shooter?
Yes, I always come with a second photographer. That way, I can get different angles and capture different people at the same time, like the grooms expression as the bride walks down the isle, etc.
14. If we want to book you for our wedding, what is the next step?
After you have contacted me and we have determined I am available on your wedding date, the next step would be to sign the contract and pay your deposit which is equivalent to1 hour of the hourly rate. Payment in full is due two weeks prior to the wedding date.
